Make sure your novel is 100% ready for publication.
Don’t publish until your novel has been proofread to the highest level of excellence. Be aware that as helpful as some online grammar-check tools may be, they are far from sufficient substitutes for an intelligent human proofreader. In fact, some online tools may easily end up incorporating more errors. It’s also extremely difficult to thoroughly proofread your own writing; your eyes will often see what you think you wrote, not what is actually there (or not there).
Help your novel make an amazing first impression.
With years of proofreading experience, and as a full member of ACES (American Copy Editors Society), I know how to focus on minute details and correct countless mistakes. I also have a Poynter ACES Certificate in Editing and am a graduate of the College of Media and Publishing. As a best-selling, award-winning novelist, I understand the work and passion that go into writing a novel. Don’t sabotage your hard work and publishing future by releasing a novel marred by errors.
I will proofread for:
- Grammar
- Spelling
- Punctuation
- Capitalization
- Word usage
- Consistency
- Missing or duplicate words/letters/spaces
- Typographical errors
I will not:
- Change your writing style or voice
- Critique the plot, characters, or story
- Rewrite content
In other words, I’ll correct errors while preserving your writing voice and story. Proofreading is not content editing, so if your novel still needs large changes and rewriting, it is not yet ready for proofreading.
Proofreading is the final step before publishing. Some authors do not require much editing, and in those cases, a proofreader may be exactly what they need.
I accept many novel genres* for proofreading, including:
- Adventure
- Amish
- Chick Lit
- Clean Romance
- Sweet Romance
- Rom-Com
- Contemporary Fiction
- Christian
- Dystopian
- Fantasy
- Historical
- Inspirational
- Mystery
- New Adult
- Suspense
- Thriller
- Women’s Fiction
- Children’s Novels
- Middle-Grade Novels
- Young Adult/Teen Novels
*Please note: I proofread only clean fiction—which means content roughly equivalent to a PG or mild PG-13 rating (mature themes handled with discretion are usually fine). This is simply what I choose to read and is not intended as a judgment on any writer or novel.
I provide timely proofreading at an affordable price.
I prefer working in Microsoft Word with Track Changes turned on. I also accept Google Docs, Microsoft Office documents, and PDFs. After proofreading, I’ll return the document file to you with the changes clearly marked. It’s then up to you to choose whether to incorporate each change or not.
View testimonials of my work on ChristianProofreaders.com. And in answer to a frequently asked question, yes, I also proofread secular (non-Christian) works. Again, my only requirement is that the fiction is “clean” (see Please note, above, for my definition of “clean”).
If after viewing my rates and time estimate, you decide to submit your novel for proofreading, you can do so here or contact me with any further questions or concerns.
I make use of the following professional proofreading references:
The Chicago Manual of Style
The Chicago Guide to Copyediting Fiction
Merriam-Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary
Confidentiality:
Rest assured that I will keep your novel in the strictest of confidence, never sharing your content with any outside source. Upon request, I will also happily sign an NDA (non-disclosure agreement).
I do not accept:
Steamy Romance, Erotica, LGBTQ+, Political, Horror, or novels containing morally objectionable content or scenes of “on-screen” sex, graphic violence, abuse, or profanity.
If you’re unsure whether your novel fits my content guidelines, please send the full manuscript or a sample that includes the strongest example of any potentially questionable material, and I’ll review it and get back to you shortly. Please note that I reserve the right to decline any proofreading project if I feel it isn’t the right fit for me.
